Sneaking in the shadows.

Dark Waltz

Once she saw him, this place didn’t matter anymore. The eerie scenery around her faded into the background. She moved towards him swiftly, uncaring of how forward she may seem. He was hers, and she wouldn’t let herself lose the chance. She was surprised when he turned his attention to her. She imagined that he would often have ladies seeking to catch his eye and would have to fight for his gaze. But the smile he graced her with made her forget that as well. She held his gaze steadily, r...

Filling in the Canvas.

HE: *lifts head and speaks without turning* I was wondering when you’d show yourself again. SHE: How did you know I was hidden? HE: You like flowers too much to stay away for so long. Even in a place where time is your own perception. SHE: *Glances down* Where did it come from? HE: The soil. SHE: Since when was there soil here? HE: Ever since I got tired of speaking to a dead rose and decided it needed to be buried. SHE: I was wondering when you’d figure it out. HE...

Summer Wanderers.

The carts pulled into town in daylight. Gypsy business was best done at night, and most of their kind arrived as dusk was falling. The dim light helped increase the proper atmosphere, as did the chill weather of the autumn and winter months that most gypsies seemed to prefer when visiting our small town. This group was different though; the others needed the dark and chill to carry their illusions, but they didn’t. These were my favorite wanderers. They frightened me to no end; the hairs ...

A Vampire Story.

The place was dark and chilled. Despite the rain outside the dust was still thick enough in the air to make you choke. Still, a dank empty place to sleep was better than no place at all. Such a thought is not quite as bolstering as you might think sometimes. Walking through the place a strange sensation tingles up and down your spine. You keep turning round and round, but no one is there. Even the bats seem to be hiding tonight. You wander deeper into the mansion seeking a room with, perhap...

Oculopods: A scientific description.

The Oculopodiacal field of study is one which is, as yet, largely unexplored. This short treatise will attempt to clear up at least some of the mystery surrounding the creatures. The only sure way to identify an oculopod is by the fact that its corporeal being is nothing more than eye(s) mounted upon some form of foot/feet. No other features or appendages exist upon their bodies. Aside from that one constant the physical appearance of an oculopod is impossible to predict. They have been seen ...

Dreaming like a Fish.

I think a drawing just opened up and pulled me into it. It doesn't mean much on its own. It was part of a series to tell a story. But this panel held the magic. It is a dark place. But that's alright, the shadows are warm and the whispers are friendly. It is dark like a summer night, and quiet so that thoughts come easily. It's like a night sky, the sun is gone, but the return is assured. I can feel my footsteps echoing, a soft whispered echo. Because to ring too loudly would interr...

Taking Places

"Hmmm...." Thought the woman. Her usual spot under the tree was taken, by a pile of clothes it seemed. An old battered broad brimmed hat lay up at the neckline of a worn black duster which led down to the tips of heavy boots that had seen more than a few miles. Now the lady had nothing against clothes, in general or in specific, but this particular set just happened to be in her favorite spot. It was a situation which just would not do. She walked around a few times, surveying the situation. ...

Swinging Pendulum.

A choice to make, Two ways to go. Easy enough, One side or the other. But which to choose? Thoughts swing back and forth, Like a heavy pendulum. The weight of the matter, Keeping it in motion. Eventually it must stop. It will land on one side, Or the other. But, which side. And do I choose? Or do I let it swing, Until it stops from exhaustion. All momentum lost, And a choice made passively. Would that ever be the right choice? ©Morraha 2-28-13

RAW Recap.

Ok folks, sorry for the delay on this since I know some of y'all have been waiting for details, first trip lag then allergy attacks have been sapping my focus. But here y'all go. First off I have to say thank you to all the friends and family who helped me get ready for the show. My Mom provided wonderful advice, and gave her time when I didn't have any to help me find suppliers and pick out logos and guided me through so many of the little details that would have slipped right past me. My b...

Happy New Year.

It was the last day of the year, and it was a long, dreary, mopey sort of day. The sun refused to come out, and the clouds wouldn’t go away. They sat in the sky sullen and sodden and wept big plopping tears across the sky. Even the flowers had their fill, and bent their heads to sleep the storm off. By the time night fell I was tired of it. I wasn’t going to let the moon sulk as well. So I climbed to my roof with bags of flour in hand and flung them as hard and as high as I cou...

The Woman in The Mirror.

A door slid open quietly and a figure slipped through, shutting it swiftly after. A sigh passed her lips. Not quite one of relief but not far from it either. Lifting her head she glanced around before walking further in. The petals of dark red roses brushed her skin and wafted their perfume around her head as she passed through them. Reaching the center of her labyrinth she glanced around once more, as though ensuring she hadn’t been followed. Though, really it was impossible to...

Haters?

Haters… That’s new to me. When I was young the word really wasn’t used. We had bullies of course, but... They never bothered me more than once. Looking back I realize that I had haters. I knew how to defeat them though. It was rather easy actually. Just a few words would suffice. “You’re so weird!” They would say. So many times I heard that. Such a virulent epithet when you’re ten. I suppose. I would grant them a bright smile, I would thank them for the complim...

Queen of Hearts.

Beware the Queen of Hearts my loves. She is a sweet thief, who wins your heart with a smile, And woos you away from the world. Her eyes are soft and her smile is sweet. Her touch is gentle and her voice is music. But her heart faded long ago. Beware the Queen of Hearts my loves. She has a hole in her chest, an ache she seeks to soothe, With the warm beating of tender young souls. ©Morraha 11-20-12 Written for Delain: http://www.bluecanvas.com/art-detail/275405

Fae.

I walked outside to watch the last glow of the sunset fade from the sky. This is my favorite time of night. The air is still warm and a few birds are still chirping their goodnights. I stray just past the edge of the trees, to find my favorite spot. “Finally” my tired mind whispers. “I can rest” The air feels like velvet brushing my skin. A sudden slight chill dancing along my arms, hidden in the warmth of a summer night. I smile at the shiver that races along my skin, and breathe in ...

Adrift.

I am drifting. I feel no tether to hold me. I have lost my rudder. I have no way to guide myself. My skies promise storms. My waters are dark with foreboding. My ship pitched and tossed by uncertain winds. My certainty is shattered. I lift my hands in supplication. I pray for guidance. I pray for peace. I pray for salvation. © Morraha 11/8/12 Written for the Spadecaller Challenge. http://www.bluecanvas.com/art-detail/434828

Helpless.

I think there are few feelings in life more despicable and horrendous to the soul than that of helplessness. Having to sit back and watch something play out with no ability to change it for the better. Some things that happen cannot be changed or reversed, they cannot even be fixed. They must be... adjusted to. Learned how to deal, how to live with. And watching that happen. Seeing someone you love go through so much and not being able to do anything. You want to fix it. You want to tak...
