VOTE FOR JAMES HENRY
Posted March 08, 2013
I currently entered a design comp. for Absolut (Vodka) X. The painting I submitted is entitled "Toast of the Town" and think it it fits with the feel of this great vodka. I need votes to be considered for this honor. What I need from this art community is to go to talenthouse.com, find the app for design Absolut X and click on it, click on most voted for and find james henry's work., click on picture and vote for it. If you see one you like better, feel free to vote for it. I think this pain...

SELLING ONES SELF SHORT!
Posted December 17, 2012
This blog is for collectors of fine art that try to talk you down in price on a work of art that as artists put our blood and soul into. Some people treat your work as an auction or they are in a pawn shop. Yes, times are tight ,but I for one do not want to feel like a Kmart special! I have had a collector in Chicago buy my work for price to only tell me he didn't like my work, he bought it brcause he thought it will be worth something in the future. I'll take that anyday from if I by two wo...

NEED A TICKET TO THE ARTSHOW!
Posted December 30, 2011
This blog is regards to these art competitions that requirements for entering are becoming a major acheivement in itself. I have been painting professionally for over twent-five years and have noticed these change when entering art competitions. At first, you had to enter by slides, put title and dimensions on the slide. No stickers on them, just writing. Then, came putting your entrys on cd's.At first, it was just suppose to be done on jpeg (no problem), Now, they have to be done in certain p...

NO MORE DONATIONS PLEASE!!!!!!
Posted November 15, 2011
This blog is in reference to the government trying to stop being able to claim donations of art on the artists taxes. I , being an artist for over twenty-five years, have donated to many galas and benefits to help get money for scholarships and people who need money because of illness. All I ask in return is being able to claim this donation on my taxes to cover the expense and my talents as an artist. By doing this, the Government is going to make it harder to get donations for their causes...

Art Sudden Impact!
Posted August 12, 2011
This is a blog that deals with how your artwork can emotionally impact a viewers feelings and leave an impression that will last for the rest of his or her life. Art is suppose to get a reaction or feeling, happiness or anger, and leave them pondering thoughts of wondering how the artists mind works. The reason I brought this up is I recently had an exhibition of my surreal art entitled "Origins" at the Burlington Art Guild in Burlington Iowa. The opening brought in around one hundred and ...

THE PRICE IS RIGHT!!!!!!!
Posted May 02, 2011
O.K. you little Bob Barkers, how much for this original painting? I have been asked numerous times of how to price ones work of art. Well, there are a number of factors that I take in to figure the price. 1) How long you have been working on your craft or medium ( I've been painting professionally for over twenty-five years) 2) Your exhibition history, how much you tried to get your work out there, beating the pavement, so people know.....This is a HENRY 3) your sales history, as you get y...

ARTISTS! The Creators
Posted April 27, 2011
Okay, heres another blog about something that really irks me!!!!! I enjoy writing these blogs because it allows me to let some steam off and hopefully give another person a different perspective on an issue. So, this is all about city gov. taking art out of schools to make budget cuts (thats bullshit!) God forbid them cut any of the sport activities and why? (it brings in money!!!) I beleive that kids should be involved in sports, it helps keep them fisically and mentally fit,but there ha...

ART Like RELIGION
Posted April 25, 2011
This blog is in regard to artists that put their heart and soul into works of art. I salute you! I know there are hundreds of different styles of art and not every form of art is ones cup of tea. Now, to connect the theory of art like religion, one has to think of what is everyone in religion's main focus,.....God. Almost every religion discredits all the other religions, because he or she pray to the wrong person or don't follow the same book. Now, art....if anyone paints,draws,sculpts,wha...

WHAT IS ART ACTUALLY?
Posted April 18, 2011
I have studied art history and took courses in College, I have painted and shown my works for over twenty-five years, and still am trying to figure, ...WHAT IS ART! I have witnessed all styles of art and have found works from all of them that I liked. Recently I went to an exhibit of a Abstract artist and everyone was going gaga other the work (It was trash!) I know that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but come on, If my six year old grandson could do it...it ain't art! Is art a popu...

Hot Art!!!
Posted December 03, 2010
Hey everyone- This is the way to sell your art work! I have been displaying my works at a local pub in my hometown. I've done pretty well on the sales ,but I used this bar as a place to store it until I have to show it elsewhere. Well, the other day I was out and I recieved a phone call from one of my collectors. He asked me if I have any works down at the pub and I said just three. He then told me the building was on fire! I rushed down to see that there were four fire trucks and smoke ...

Whats a SELLOUT!!!!
Posted October 11, 2010
Hey everyone- Yesterday my cousin and I were talking and I told him I finished a painting of downtown Burlington that I am donating to a local art gala (benefits students with art scholarships) He told me I was selling out because it wasn't surrealism. I told him HE WAS WRONG !!!!!! I use to donate a surreal work to this event which only recieved between 400-600 dollars. Then one year, I decided to do a picture of Burlington and it brought 3,300.00 I told him that some of the great surrea...

Be True to Ones Self
Posted October 02, 2010
Hey everyone- I already wrote a blog today, but I started thinking of this and it kinda connects with having exhibitions. I recently judged the Fort Madison Art in the Park. There were a few artists in this art venue that I knew and feel they are really good artists. There was one artist that I have known for a long time that has trouble with people critizing his work. I had to be fair in my judging (how much work into it, presentation, etc...) and I didn't give him any awards. I hop...

Art to be shown in unlikely places
Posted October 02, 2010
This is to all artists that look for places to exhibit their works. I have exhibited my works of art for over twenty-five years and don't refuse a place to show them. Recently, I had a show scheduled at the Burlington Art Guild, but it was cancelled because of construction problems. Luckly a pub across the street heard I was looking to show my new work and offered me an exhibit in their bar. So, I brought a dozen easels (cheap ones) and hung what work I could and put the rest on easels. ...
