Richard Harris Morbid Curiosity Collection
Posted November 15, 2012
This is one of the greatest collection of art pieces and artifacts about death ever assembled. It showed at the Chicago Cultural Center this year (I went several times) and is now in London at Wellcome Collection. I HIGHLY recommend everyone see this show if possible. http://www.wellcome.ac.uk/News/Media-office/Press-releases/2012/WTP040736.htm http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/art/art-features/9646440/Death-warmed-up-the-ultimate-art-collection.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine...

Voting as an artist and for the arts on Tuesday.
Posted November 05, 2012
Regardless of where you claim to stand on the political spectrum, know this: you participate on this site because you are an artist and as an artist you have a responsibility to all you claim to be. The arts have been on a decline for 30 years in this nation, we have had consistent cuts in funding for art education at all levels, reduction in spending on art infrastructure and institutions, public broadcasting, public grants and support in general have been diminished to a point that they are es...

Bluecanvas art books for the future?!?!?
Posted October 16, 2012
Seriously, the guys and gals at BC really pulled it off big time. The Art of Journey book is a thing of beauty. Incredible production values, amazing spreads and A+ layouts. I haven't even begun to go through it, but what little I have read thus far is very informative and eloquently written, and there is great insight into the creative process for interactive art. The cost is high, but the value is there. I do not have any kind of tablet/smart phone so I cannot attest to the augmented reality ...

Just give me a painting. . .

GREAT little rant post by Kate Stone/David Gluck on their kick ass blog regarding just how little respect many people have for what we do. http://paintingstufftolooklikestuff.blogspot.com/2012/09/oh-just-give-me-painting-brought-to-by.html

In response to Remember
Posted September 11, 2012
Nicely written, but your argument is not well thought out. You must always study the past in order to understand why the present is the way it is and learn in order to prevent the future from being just as ugly and dark. The aggressors in global economics and politics in modern history were the super powers: US/NATO and USSR/Warsaw Pact. All the problems facing our world today are remnants of the silly games boy-men with tanks and planes played for 60 years. Through our government's direct actio...

Great Youtube time lapse of my MFA instructor and friend David Jamieson doing a portrait drawing.
Posted August 21, 2012
David taught me anatomy and ecorche, and his wife and partner at Vitruvian, Mindy taught me painting and drawing. They are by far the two best instructors anyone can possibly hope for. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TpUL4xf-uIw&feature=channel&list=UL Thier school located in Chicago: http://www.vitruvianstudio.com/home

Robert Hughes - Rest in Peace

The last great and truly relevant Art Critic is dead. The world has lost a voice of reason that championed the importance of meaning in Art and despised the business of and lack of soul in contemporary art. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-19158897

Artist Statement for The Disasters & The Four
Posted January 29, 2011
The story of humanity is replete with hardship and suffering. Our species’ struggle is what has brought us to this point in time. All our greatest cultural and technological innovations; our music, art, engineering, science, political systems, philosophy, literature - our very way of life, are all products of surviving a harsh and deadly environment. Our defiance of oblivion made us smarter, stronger, and wiser. We are not however immortal, invincible or unassailable. There is a great deal abo...
