As an art artist, one of my artistic goals is to persistently research, observe and document the public urban landscapes and its inhabitants. I see my goals parallel to that of an urban anthropologist. However, I document the facts through the use of painted images.
These human interactions are a constant source of inspiration in my work.
The nature of my work requires me to spend much time on-location, observing, note-taking and understanding. My approach to my work can also be seen as akin to what a photojourmalist tries to do with his/her camera. This ephemeral subject demands a quickness of production. Thus, I work in a figurative fashion, utilizing acrylics, watercolors and pen and ink on sheets of paper. Images are first recorded in the form of loose sketches and note-taking on to sheets of paper. Afterwards, I recreate the scene that I had just witnessed on to full sheets in a more realized manner.
One of my artistic influences is the American artist John Sloan. He once said: “Art is a result of a creative impulse derived out of a consciousness of life”. Just as Sloan observed and depicted early 20th century transient city life in New York, I am attemtping to document the urban interactions of modern-day Los Angeles. The French artist Honore’ Daumier is another influence, yet he documented mid-19th century Parisian city life.
whats up dude!! long time hope all is well.
