My interest in painting is the human body. Portraying the human figure is perhaps the oldest subject in art. However my interest lies not in what the body represents, how it looks or the emotions that derive from looking upon it.
My interest is in its shape itself. Human topography. Nearly everyone on the planet is now accustomed to seeing their image in a photograph or mirror. That, however is not how your body interacts with the world. Its interaction is touch, shape and movement. Flattering, unflattering, abstract or unexpected it is real. In my art the body is not an image to be created, it is the tool to create.
