I am 21 years old, a learning photographer, and I am trying to step into many artistic worlds. I have lately been fooling around with drawing again, and entertaining the thought of buying a piece of canvas. I love the freedom of all art, and am ready to explore. I hope that from BlueCanvas I can gain both critique and exposure as a photographer. You can request any of my images to be printed and mailed to you at cost, plus a dollar. I am currently raising 1 dollar per image sold to upgrade my camera. Thank you everyone in advance for your stars, comments, critique, and support.

Been enjoying your galleries again. Really good stuff. Explain HDR to a non photographer. Some my not agree, but there really is no place quite like the "D". Thanks for capturing it in all its stark, decaying glory.

Hmm HDR to a non photographer...It stands for high dynamic range. A standard image from a digital camera is a single exposure, or snap. Generally the photo is taken at the cameras interpretation of the most balanced way to show a subject. However by taking multiple photos of the same subject, at different "exposure values (a lower EV will result in a darker image, and higher EVs brighter) and then blending the photos together through post processing results in an image that has a much higher range than can be shown through a single image. Basically think of a single picture being limited to a small range, whereas the 5 adjusted images contain more colors, tones, shadows and highlights. Then its just a matter of blending the group of photos together in a balance that still contains realism, yet is a view that is unperceivable by the human eye. Hope that lengthy explanation makes sense. And i agree that Detroit certainly is a great breeding ground for an artist, especially one that can formulate styles and inspirations otherwise nonexistent.

Just wanted to say, unperceivable to the human eye "naturally" HDR is a way to make the enhanced vision of a scene available to the human eye, as it could not occur naturally.

Hmm, do you have control over the Exposure Value on your camera? Thats a neccessity, but other than that its just making sure your shot is lined up and you don't move the camera. The rest is post processing

underneath the scrolling images of a user's featured folder is a button that says "More Folders"...opposite the Fullscreen function then you just click the album you want (they display over the featured folder images). There is also an arrow at the bottom right of the pop up screen in case a person has more than 4 additional folders...

Yeah...Well I realized that when people look at your art, the side bar for them to transfer to a different piece, only will include thumbs up to your third page of artwork. So I had a 4th and 5th page of things never being looked at...the only way you could view it was if you waited for it on my profile page where it tiles through. So this way at least all my stuff will be visible I guess.

I have no idea, I think i was just being impatient and clicking the save button multiple times so it just registered that way. BTW sorry for just now checking out the other shots, I did not realize that you could make different folders for your artwork, I thought there was just artwork, personall, and collection. I'm not sure a lot of people on here are aware about the folders other than the one that automatically displays. I'll probably organize my stuff down the road, but for now i'm gonna leave it one big cluttered folder.

Yeah I just have to get the time to type it all out and make sure its snazzy and understandable for all readers. I'm also trying to pick out 5 images so that people can try the processing of it without going out and taking the photo's themselves, so they can be familiar with it and do their own images with ease when they get around to taking them.

I've yet to do an HDR photo. Is it really hard to prepare it in Photoshop? Why do you recommend Photomatix? I understand the concept of taking atleast 3 different shots so you can get the highlights and the darks and everything, but how do you merge them? I guess I'll just wait for the tutorial.
|
|
rrhall
Replied: January 08, 2010
photoshop has a merge to hdr option under File-Automate. but i reccomend photomatix because photosho does not fit the images well, and when converting it, you will have to use a bunch of settings such as local adaptation and gamma that to even very experienced photographers, are extremely confusing. i love photoshop, but hdr is all photomatix does, so its more user friendly and yields better results
