Roger Seward feels funny when writing in the third person…
Artist Statement:
I am a visual artist that lives and works in Houston, Texas. My work ranges amongst paintings, works on paper, and comics depending upon the intent and message of the piece. I am interested by almost everything I see, hear, or read about, and I use my artwork to continuously explore my questions regarding human nature, the natural world, philosophy, sociology, and personal interactions. I want my audience to explore the moments I present in order to create their own worlds and draw their own conclusions.
I believe that artwork is communication. I create art that communicates at every level, to any audience. I strive to achieve a universal image that reads deeper and deeper upon further investigation. My paintings, drawings, and comics are my attempts to resolve my brain's philosophical wanderings.
My artwork is currently highly influenced by ideas of story and closure created by the viewer. My art creates a potent visual moment similar to a literary "short short" in order to imply a rich past and possible future. My artwork seeks to be authentic and true to my own personality which necessitates a decoding of the seemingly random or humorous.
