I had a high school art teacher tell me that I was not living up to my potential which, translated, meant I lacked ability. Soooo, that was the challenge. I, immediately along with a friend, signed up for a painting class with a private teacher. Later,I took art in college at University of Missouri but the teacher spent most of her time in the local pub with football players and I did not learn anything. And I really majored in social development. When I decided to go back to school, Bellarmine University, I took all the classes in Theology, Philosophy, and Art I could get. I graduated with a B.A. degree in Humanities. Since then I have taken classes and workshops in watercolor and oils and am, currently, with Claudia Hammer.
My work experience does not reflect any art ability. My first job was with IBM in St. Louis, Mo. in charge of Accounts Receivable. Then I married, moved to Louisville, and worked as Administrative Assistant to the Faculty of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. After I quit to stay home with children (2) I helped start a Community MInistry to help with food and financial assistance for the poor. I loved this job! Now I paint, cook lunch and dinner for my husband and son, and try to keep busy and avoid depression. I would go back to any of these jobs immediately, if physically possible. Martha A. Hinson
