Rhode Island School of Design (better known as RISD) is a small college in a small state, but it's one with a huge international reputation. Founded in 1877, RISD (pronounced "RIZ-dee") attracts the top art and design students from around the country and the world. Each year approximately 2,400 undergraduate and graduate students share their creative energy as they pursue full-time degree programs in 19 studio majors in the fine arts, architecture and design.
RISD is also home to an outstanding Museum of Art housing 85,000 works of art from every period and genre. It's a great regional resource, teaching tool and source of inspiration for students, and together with the college, helps make its host city of Providence, RI among the most creative cultural centers in the northeast.
