A fresh modern take on “the portrait”.
Twenty five years ago, Lori Pratico started her art career as a billboard painter in Philadelphia. Today she is a full time artist in South Florida. Hanging sixty feet in the air off of a billboard will conquer just about any fear one might have of the art world and may seem like a bit of an unconventional way of “showing” your work. Lori likes to think her approach to her artwork today is the same, both unconventional and fearless. She experiments with different materials and styles and really has no rules or method to her work. Her only concern is her result.
Self taught, art has also been a place where she could isolate herself, and separate herself from what was happening around her. Feeling safe and like she belonged was a struggle growing up. This was why Lori chose to create portraits. It was a way to break down those walls and create a connectedness to her subject that could not be achieved away from her easel. Her hope is that the viewer somehow can see the personal relationship she has with her art. When viewing her portraits she hopes that you walk away feeling like you not only viewed the exterior strokes , but somehow discovered a part of the person being portrayed, and in turn a part of herself.
