Nice work! These are great drawings! You have a wonderful range of value. What did you use for these?...........and thanks for the comment, that's just the Oregon forests for you.

Thanks so much! Charcoal on paper and an eraser. White is usually the paper itself...very rarely a bit of pastel. Oregon does have wonderful forests :)

Oh nice, thanks. I've been working with graphite and bristol paper lately in the same sort of fasion and I've really liked it, but I haven't been able to come close to the contrast and range of values you have here. I like how well defined the forms and perspective are in your drawings too; that sort of crisp line quality is kind of difficult to acheive with charcoal.

Hi Builingwall...what paper were you using for the charcoal? something with some "tooth" and 140lb minimum with some sharp faber castel charcoal pencils will help you achieve crisp line....but in charcoal "soft and atmospheric like your photo above is really wonderful too!

Hey Kathrine. Thanks! I was using a heavy weight bright white paper, it is a pretty smooth though, nice for blending graphite pencils, but I'll try something with more "tooth"; I'll have to pick up some faber castel charcoal pencils too. I do really like that soft, hazy, atmospheric perspective too, but I think drawings like that are always better when they're grounded/contrasted with some crisp lines to better define certain areas in the foreground. I think you do a good job of that in your work. Thanks.
