After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Art with a music minor from Our Lady of the Lake University, I worked at Holy Cross of San Antonio High School for two years as a Fine Arts instructor. While teaching I had various art exhibits at El Sol Studios in the King Williams Historical District and worked on several commissions.
After receiving my Masters Degree in Education from the University of Notre Dame I returned to San Antonio. I currently teach Fine Arts and Art History at Holy Cross of San Antonio and at the Mexican American Catholic College. I have exhibited my work at the Centro Cultural Aztlan and will soon prepare a variety of works for upcoming events within the organization.
My cultural identity and the rich traditions that have been handed to me give life to my paintings. The inspiration for my work is also finds its roots in the life and work of Mexican painters like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozco and José David Alfaro Siqueiros. Their life, work and struggles have influenced many of my paintings and this has allowed me to re-connect with my Mexican roots. I have taken a few of their original works and reinterpreted the various themes within each painting in a new reflective way that magnifies their sorrows, passion, love, and uncensored imaginative spirit through the use of bright vivid colors and strong lines.
