At age nine, Dawn began to draw in California where she was born and raised. Her parents enrolled her in private oil painting classes in middle school and throughout high school; she attended a commercial arts high school for half of each day. Dawn continued to study art in Chicago at the American Academy of Art where she received an AA degree and then went on to receive her BFA at the Art Institute of Chicago. After art school, she moved to Orlando where she became a Walt Disney World artist. In 1987, she opened a Scenic Design company with her life partner. For the last five years, Dawn has concentrated on her fine art full time.
