I am assuming you illustrate children's books...if you aren't...you should be...I would buy it for my grandaughters...what wonderful colorful whimsical works!
charmagnecoe Replied: February 11, 2010
I do not. However, I've been approached on the topic many times. But who knows about the future? I've done a bit of illustration work with art and other types of magazines, but mostly I paint and sell fine art. Thank you for your generous words!

hello charmagnecoe,im a great believer that you can "if you put your mind to it," turn out great art in a media or a mixture of media that possibly you would not have thought possible your work is proof of this, and comments of fellow artists on your message board, congrats on a great portfolio.
charmagnecoe Replied: July 19, 2009
Thank you so much for those words ... really moved me. Best to you, UptonParkman. Cheers!

Hi Charmagne, I tried my hand in class tonight at using the media you use. I REALLY like it! I've just added a painting to my gallery. Whilst nowhere near as good as yours, you were my inspiration :D
charmagnecoe Replied: May 26, 2009
Thank you! I am honored. Wonderful work! ;-)
fheathermoore Replied: May 26, 2009
Thank you so much! It's getting good feedback on the other sites I'm on. I never thought I'd enjoy it so much, so I went out and bought some ink and oil pastels to experiement more. My art teacher also loved your images. She thought they were mine, to which I replied, sadly I'm not that good lol. :D
fheathermoore  Posted: May 22, 2009
May I just say, I've never been the biggest fan of watercolours but, by far, yours are the best I've ever seen. Can I ask how you work them in with the pastels? Do you lay down your indian ink first? I'd like to give it a try and wondered what your method is.
charmagnecoe Replied: May 22, 2009
Thank you for asking and showing such a kind interest. To answer your question, I lay down my watercolor layers/shapes, then ink, and then hard pastel. From there, I alternate between the mediums till the painting tells me it is done. Of course, there are lots of effects you will encounter along the way in terms of pressure, blending, splattering, etc... so have fun!
fheathermoore Replied: May 22, 2009
Thank you so much for that. I was discussing watercolour at college, and they were talking about discontinuing the dedicated courses as they said it was really old fashioned. However, I said to them they shouldn't do away with it completely and that it they could give it a modern edge using Indian ink and cited your work as an example of how it can look if done properly. It certainly has given me a new perspective on the medium, and I hope others too. I can't wait to have a bash it! Oh what kind of paper are you using? Normal watercolour paper?
charmagnecoe Replied: May 23, 2009
"Old fashioned"?... wow. I would really question the validity of anyone making a self-determination that a certain art genre or medium was over and done with. Especially those in leadership... I hope students do not fashion there opinions and interests based upon this, because exploration and self-discovery are crucial in an artistic path. I love Arches, but also will work on good 140 lb Strathmore. And I try for finer tooth papers so my India ink nibs and contour lines will work smoothly. Enjoy trying things out! Also... it is not about trying to be modern or "today", as it is about simply being real and connecting to what moves you as the artist.
fheathermoore Replied: May 23, 2009
I think it's due to the extremely low take-up of watercolour courses. In fact, not a single person signed up this term for watercolour classes. They said they can't justify running the courses. Also they get a lot of feedback from existing students and no-one is really interested in it. Just a fact. I suggested they run it as part of the mixed media course rather than as an individual course. It's better than completely cutting the course. I'm definitely going to try it out, just need to get some Indian Ink. My first painting was a watercolour.
