Your work is so increadible. It is what I want to create as an artist, but just have never been able to dream up. So great.
Thanks again - so kind. I'd say that having a lot of crazy ideas is easier than arranging them. I'd also say to make tons of little thumbnail sketches. TONS of them to chase your ideas into articulation. You could even do 50 in a day if you're sufficiently revved up.
I love the idyllic calm and your vision of Hopperesque Americana amidst impending disaster. An apt allegory for our times...
amazing work! I also did a tornado painting a couple years ago, but your tornadoes blow mine away(yuk-yuk).
Absolutely! I had also been painting a UFO invasion scene over a carnival and adding a giant sea creature when I first saw your work in the Blue Canvas(will post when done). Great stuff!
I love it all. this is very exciting work, I saw it in the current issue and I was inspired to join the Blue Canvas community. Thank you
These are wonderful! I take it you live somewhere in tornado alley? Great stuff.
Actually I live in CA. Chased storms a ways back but I don't know what possessed me prior to that. Wizard of Oz?
yur work is startling, marvelous, and moving. i am very impressed. and i bought issue six because of yur work. great job.
Thank you! Very kind words indeed. Sometimes I think I'm actually out of steam until someone like yourself responds in this way. You are the fuel!!!! Very happy you enjoy them! :)
Congrats on having your work displayed at the Issue 6 Launch Event! Your work is so awesome & original...you will be the artist who students will study in art history books one day! Again, congratualtions and continued success! : )
History books?! That is certainly a nice sentiment - thank you!!!! But one can never know, huh.... I think that in history books the folks will look at how film and all its cgi affected painting just as how photography affected impressionism. There will be a link in retrospect. That and the scramble for what people think is "meaning" in an image. I would love to read an art history book from 2832 A.D. :)
Oh God I'm drooling. Some of the most beautiful terrifying circumstances ever put to canvas. The "every-man" doesn't stand a chance.
Yes, "every-man" is getting his ass kicked these days. I don't think that aspect of things will ever leave my work. :)
your work is really something. very inspirational.. that is for sure!
Thank you, Sir!!! I'm loving your work too - was just trying to arrange a fig. in front of some suburbia like that. Tough!!!
John, your paintings are wonderful. The octopus painting just kills me. Startling, funny, unsettling, so gorgeously painted. Fleshy, slimy, translucent, mottled. The tentacle reaching out from the curb is alarming. That hilarious lamp post cutting the picture in two! Actually, all the work in your gallery kills me one way or another. In Scouring, the way the sun illumines a strip of town in the distance, the green sky in Jerk, your plaid shirt in Self Portrait, the velvety slate skies.i also like very much the way you handle paint. It has a sort of lush grainyness that you see in Chardin. I wish you well and hope you get more time to paint.
Thank you for such kind words!!!! Time is returning a bit over here. Sometimes it is hard to just tell so many people to bugger off for a bit because I do enjoy the folks in my life. They all just have to understand that being an artist does not mean "free time." I'm sure you can relate!!! :)
you're the eye in the storm guy - keep on kicking ass in the studio!
Thank you, Sir!!! I just took a look at your site and urge folks to visit for sure. Me, I have done some pastel work and really enjoy it. It almost seems like I don't have time to do as much of it as I'd like. Weird, that....
Hi John, love love your work. Saw your tornado series a few years ago in Laguna Beach...at Sue Greenwood? gallery?? More than amazing in person. Captivating would be the word. Showing again in Laguna soon?
Hey! Thanks for the kind words! I have been teaching so much that it has been hard to paint. However, I hope to have a few things up to speed very soon. No show yet scheduled - I'm going to wait until the work reaches some kind of critical mass. :)
Hey John, Always a pleasure to look through your work! One of the most talented people I know of.
Thanks! That is very kind of you, sir. Still tryin' over here!!! lol! I have some still lifes going right now. So far so good.
Brilliant work, John... Your series of tornados and storm paintings are a treasure in themselves!
Thanks, Chris! Kind words indeed. It is weird to have a niche: How to cultivate it without abusing it is getting to be the trick - stay excited and not get comfortable, etc. I'm right now trying to sketch up some imagery of where it will go next and some of the thumbnails go right back to my original attempts - it is a fun puzzle as I write this.
Wise words; and highly poignant in these times ;) I have no doubt you'll maintain absolute integrity and fulfillment within your work :)
Amazing work... esp the Edge of Town series.
Thank you - I do like that series too but I think it is going through a transformation coming up. Trying to figure it out!
Your works are so incredibly good!! I've never seen something compareable before and In can't stop staring at them.... very inspiring and unique, as if they had been taken out of some movie, wow :-)
your work is beautiful. I love the juxtaposition I see a lot of in your work-the beautiful/terrifying. Great job, and congrats on the feature!!
wow. Good stuff.
the texture you get from your brush strokes is kinda awesome. Makes me want to go paint something.
love your tornados
Thanks! I never get tired of that series. Too bad though about all the damage/ death yesterday. Never want to see that.
very happy to see you, john.... your art is awesome... : )
Thanks again, Mimi! I just ran across your material and its almost like you're exploding with art. :)
Thank you for sharing your work! Your gallery is exceptional and I look forward to seeing more! Congrats!
Thank YOU - the best thing that can happen is for others to connect with it. That's the best fuel! :)
These paintings are absoloutly incredible! They take the mind to strange places and truly push you to try to understand them. Unique work!
Thanks! I have several more under way right now and can't wait to post them. LOVING your face paintings here. I have a painting with a woman done up "skull' in it but its not working out just yet.

awesome gallery! love the visuals!
