Works on Photos
January 15, 2010
Hello again,
If you have had a chance to look at my work you will know that I am a painter. However, I am very interested in other art forms as well. I have recently posted some new work that consists of paintings on top of vintage photographs. To create these I have been perusing antique stores looking for late 19th early 20th century photographs, always in black and white or sepia tone. As I approach the painting aspect I am looking to play off of both the composition and the accompanying person(s) facial expression and/or posture. For the piece "Lovely", for example, I really wanted to play off of the wife's subtle, coy smile. Thus the "phallic mask", which seems counter the image's conservativeness.
These photo pieces really just began as a side project, but with great encouragement from others I think I will continue to make them. I think they make for a nice complement to my more saturated paintings. Let me know what you think??? Thanks for reading and thanks for checking out my art.
