How to grow as an artist in this day an age

I had a wonderful compliment and enquiry from a fellow BCer. It was how to grow or what advice I would give as an artist my self.

Getting out and about and self promote is a great idea. I do belong to other websites that are similar to Blue Canvas (redbubble.com and fineartamerica.com) just to name two of many that I have found helpful and motivating. Google the net for art prizes. It will stretch your talent and also get your work seen. Most of an art career is about being seen let alone sales.

Join a social group. Join an art gallery. Go to openings of other artists. Have an exhibition whether it be a group or solo adventure. Really find what is out there so you too can evolve.

Be adaptable. There are so many technologies and art materials out there so experiment! I collage, paint on plastic tablecloths, I photoshop (for tee shirts to sell) and draw on just about anything and just for something different - I sew!

Also on the web you can find magazines that you may want to submit an article showcasing your art. Have a go - as you may get published and may even generate sales. I have also joined projects websites such as arthousecoop.com which is an inspiring collab site and www.doedemee.be for an international fight illiteracy book cover design project.

I hope this has been helpful?

The above image is from my www.arthousecoop.com "The SketchBook Project 2013". I have found the motivation and the support of other artists to be inspiring and encouraging.
