Broken Candycanes

-For the hopeless, I want you to listen.

I've scarcely felt more ignorant in my life than when I first realized how fragile the human soul actually is. Beyond the imagination of childhood we suddenly plummet to our fates. Without a voice to constantly remind us of our potential, we quickly let dreams fade. You can't imagine how hard the heart can hurt until the world has regularly failed you to the point of absolute despair.

It's easy to grow bitter. Courtesy has seemingly vanished in society. And it's easy to grow lonesome & lost among the masses.

In these extraordinary times - when man's ingenuity has produced the most powerful weapons of war - human history is continuously twisted and re-established for a fresh generation of naïve minds. Criminals are sheltered, fed and allowed internet access while low-income families can barely afford to pay for gas to go to work. The earth's natural resources are drained and wither in the name of 'progress'. Wild animals know nothing of human law, but are condemned by it because we've discounted the great lessons taught by nature. International communication, compromise and diplomacy are all but ignored. We've chosen our path and there is very little defense for it.

But we're not doomed. There is a degree of assurance that change is always possible, though we may have forgotten how to apply it. Mankind's imagination once maintained the ability to brilliantly sway the cosmos, but we've crippled ourselves. Goodwill has given way to the pursuit of the all-mighty dollar. The commercial element of culture has been so overly advertised as virtuous that it's become shameful to support anything that isn't economically viable. This is disgraceful. This diseased mentality must be rectified. It has been done before and it can surely be done again.

Global conflicts fabricate fear and proliferate hatred, while ruling spirits design an enemy to manage the herds. But the enemy is not another race, nation, or religion. It's bigger than all of that. It's a fear of ourselves and of our time. It's an age that has all but destroyed humanity's confidence and ability to influence our own future. And a miserable plague of helplessness has grown from it, a rotting notion of triviality - merciless.

Naturally, we search for an remedy. We yearn for a hero to faintly inspire a reason for us to wake up the next day. And once in a while one will appear, just often enough to remind us that small miracles sometimes happen and maybe we're not always wrong to wish for them.

People are very particular and everybody has their own special hang-ups. Old secrets and regrets strangle us. I'm no different. There's a desperate appetite for a time well remembered and the longing to be part of a world that no longer exists. I've spent many charming hours thinking about this, and many, many painful ones. Even now, as I write, I wonder how useless and weak my opinions might seem. I can't expect to steer anyone away from their own feelings, but I refuse to believe that I am alone.

Memories parade by and it's remarkable what a person recalls. It's a bittersweet nostalgia. The deep wounds of the past shrink with the march of time, but they never completely heal. There is no such thing. However, the amazing memories, they sing for a lifetime and become more poignant, more beautiful. They are magic, always, and we have the opportunity to plant more.

It's time to start over. The desire to improve is essential. The world has been starved of empathy for too long and we need a revolution of compassion. We don't need angry mobs. Mobs don't fight with their own courage, but with courage they borrow. We need individuals! No one is powerless and the crusade of relevance has a place for everyone.

Instead of being dazzled by notoriety, be encouraged by creativity & individuality. Judge a person by their character and their integrity. Try to embrace the things that ultimately matter and discard those things that don't. Preserve compassion and impart it to those who need it. It costs nothing! Help devise ideas to repair the fractured human spirit and do it sincerely. Bury the sorrows of the heart and move forward with determination. The future is open. Make it new and make it incredible!

Dreams do not expire! In the great struggle of life none of us can ever fail if we resolutely choose not to. The capacity to achieve is vital & rich, and with it comes pride & nobility. Make these ideas the ones you carry with you to the sole end of your life. Don't let them fade. Nourish them, they will grow! As long as there is a desire, there is forever a chance, and if you wish for it hard enough, just once in a while we can make miracles happen.
