What is in Your Hand
July 13, 2012
She had a life jacket
I was trolling the waters
she was floating carefree,
I was hanging on to
any branch that floated
my way.
On the land she had boots to
drudge the mud,
I was walking in sandals trying to
figure out how to avoid
the mud.
What I fail to figure
out was what she
had I could not have
but what was in my
hands to create for
each place I came
would have helped me
carve out the place of
acceptance and respect.
Sometimes these
are not handed to you
only earned.
Looking to what I don't
have never works.
What I have in my hands
what I have in my heart
to carve a place of respect
and dignity, to serve others
to benefit, to make a place
better for all.
