Memories and Mirrors

So what is it that links me
to you, to the past of memories?
The woven fabric that once
clothed me in warmth
and you fed me from the famine
of my art.
my art grew, my pride
did too....
Sometimes reality stunk,
the only measure of truth
in relationships.
Memories, and mirrors
are always present.
The X-rays past our skin
to where truth begins, ends
or continues.
And to comfort a falseness
or create another reality
to live only in the four corners
of my head can be pretty darn tight,
no visitors or friends stay too long.
Dim the light of the present or
past and still the drapes hang
with tiny reflections, the walls
are decorated with them
the table has standing ones.
And I don't remember adding them?
Past of memories and
the present of mirrors
collide at times and the link
to you fragile but only a
memory.

Alli - I can feel the longing in this piece. And I've felt it myself many times for something that was that is no more. And yet the love is not wasted, it helps us to grow and to realize what it is within ourselves that we long for too so we can learn to be grateful for who we are as well as to those who helped move us along on our journey. Beautifully written Alli - and so glad to see it featured!
