In Un’ Altra Vita

In another lifetime, I loved you once –
in a sparkling nebula of promises
where my dreams revolved in orbit
around the superheated sun of you,
and I was but a dimmer moon,
a pale reflection
of your brighter light.
It was you who made me shine
with a joy that made me radiant.
But the strong gravity of loving you
has pulled me out of orbit now
and I am melting Icarus.

In another lifetime, I loved you once
on an endless emerald sea of hopes,
the tall sails of my ship burnished to bronze
in the blazing glow of our love’s sunset.
This love that once set forth so gallantly
has foundered on the rocks of time;
those islands of once happy memories
are now completely circumscribed by loss.

In another lifetime, I’ll love you yet again.
The ebbing tide will rise once more,
the sea will give up her lonely ghosts,
and the goddess moon return to shine.
Though I must let go of what hopes I had,
there are more dreams to be born among the stars
and upon the gentle currents of moonbeams.
Such timeless desire will sail forth once more
to new explorations of love’s bright shore.
