Wishing everyone a year of freedom....2013

The Adventures pg 52

I went into the city on Tuesday morning of August 23 and when I came back
Wednesday night my two surviving cats were not in the mesh bag.
I was totally upset until I realized they had cocooned. I found
one nestled between two leaves but the other one was nowhere to
be found. I frantically searched for him for about 1 ½ hours. I cut every
leaf off the branches one by one and inspected each one for a cocoon
….but to no avail….he was not there.

I looked down on the ground where I had placed the mesh bag and to
my surprise and delight, there he was, in his little silk pouch stuck
to the silk rim of the mesh bag itself and tucked safely into one
of its folds. I was so happy to find him.

Now I only have to wait till
mid May of 2012 for them to emerge into adulthood. For anyone reading
this post you will have to come back in May and I will keep you updated.

I regret I did not get to see them spinning their silk nests but it happened
over night. That is how fast it happened. Here is a picture of the nest in the
silk folds of the rim bag. The other is too wrapped into the leaves to really see anything.

I have put some twigs into the bag so they have something to get up onto
when they emerge. How exciting is that?
