The House of Self Destruction
July 23, 2011
The House of Self Destruction
This house of mine it looks so great
So warm, so light, so full of cheer
The frontdoor is a smashing smile
Invites you to come near
Before you have a chance to knock
The door swings open and you see
The hallway with a hundred doors
All painted psychedelically
I watch you through a mirror window
See you exploring, door by door
Some doors are slightly opened up
You smile and go for more
I so much want to feel like Cinderella
Hoping that you would find me in the end
Instead I wonder what you think
What, tell me, what is your intent?
How many doors are you prepared to open
And what would you be looking for
Would you see me or the facade
Oh God, why am I so unsure
This whisp'ring voice inside my head
It tells me so consistently
This prince of yours will never find you
And if he does, he'll flee
Then all the fear inside my heart
Takes over and in rage
I slam the doors, I lock them all
It's much much safer in this cage
I see you hesitate, confused
All expectations ripped apart
It's obvious to me I broke
Your and my fragile heart
You wonder where I could have gone
Like Cinderella, but with no shoe
You leave my house in haste
You just don't have a clue
Note: I have outgrown this Cinderella so it seems, although I lose my shoes now and then and still slam doors from time to time. Sometimes there will be a foot in the door, sometimes he will flee. I guess it all depends on how much he cares to find me as a real woman. And I don't mean that as a nasty remark for previous princes, I probably met them in this Cinderella state, so it could not be helped.
Main thing is I realize that I accept myself as how I am and that I am entitled to a loving, equal relationship with someone who will accept me for who I am, slamming doors and all ;-)

Ahhh Miek - this is so profoundly meaningful. We're all afraid to be "found" or found out - just sure that if anyone opened all the doors and discovered who we really were, that they couldn't possibly love us anyway! It takes a very long time, I think, to learn to love ourselves enough to feel "good enough" and open the doors to our own hearts.

The House of Self Destruction completely reeled me in and crept into my soul with its many profound images, messages and emotions...many philosophical and metaphoric elements...simply beautiful and powerful.

Oh goodness, how true your words ring! There's so many things within ourselves we don't understand or like and figure others won't like them either. You've painted a picture of exactly that.

I'm so glad I can share it with people who understand, Karirose! Sharing makes it easier. xxx

There is so much about this that I love dear Annemieke- sigh....brings so much back to me...gosh, but I was once so mixed up that I myself was the fleeing prince for so long... you write so beautifully and in a way that is honest and accessible. I love it! XXX

That means a lot to me Rosie. Self-acceptance is the first step, still working on that ;-)
