Is it good art or inspiring words?

I think a lot of better artists don't alway start at the top, they have a artistic journey with a lot of ups and downs like everyone else. It brought me to a question after looking around at a lot of art some of it really good, and some of it not quite MY delight (but that's ok.) Do we all give lip service to artworks of an aspiring artist just to make a "feel good" comment to keep them going where an honest opinion would be more productive in helping them achieve their goal? I admit, I have put art up that was not my very best to see what others would say, sometimes it's nothing, sometimes it is words of encouragement.
Still in pursuing excellence in art, it is hard to critique well and not to offend especially online. I for one like the critique because it allows me a new set of eyes that see what I might not have and gives me the perspective of what the general population thinks of that piece, so I suppose that maybe the "kindness" in giving soft words is perhaps leading some of us on false hopes, that whatever piece of art is being observed and critiqued is something it's not at that point. Please don't read this wrong I am not saying my art is fabulous right now, there are plenty on here that are far far better and really my inspiration to keep getting better, but I hope that many of us can take a critique so that it can help us get to where we are trying to instead of making us feel good because it's political correctness.
