Description: I have very few decent photos of myself, I guess mainly because I'm the guy that's usually behind the camera, rarely the one in front of it, so I've decided to do a series of self portraits. Rest assured this is not an exercise in vanity, but rather a way to practice various photographic styles and editing techniques, and what better way than to practice on mug-shots of myself. Besides, the end result may just be some respectable pics.
I've just had my 50th birthday and have dealt with all the angst that's associated with the 'big one', but I must say that doing this series of self portraits has been marvellous therapy. I've really had to stand back and take a good look at myself, and I'm quite surprised at what I see, that being someone who seems to have weathered life reasonably well, both inside and out. I'm not as old and wrinkly as I thought I was. Hooray. It's said that the camera never lies, but as for that bloody mirror......

Thanks, Rosie. The T-shirt says...'FREE LOVE'. It's not about sex or morality, but about surfing. It has a big wave on it. That's the kind of free spirit I am, and as long as it doesn't say 'free hate', I'm happy :D

Exceptional! Congratulations on this fine work and the feature. Love this whole series of SPs and I sure understand the angst of that 50th - though I didn't really feel that till 65!!! Fabulous.

Thanks, Liannae. I'm so happy your like my SP series. I've enjoyed the process and like that there's something tangible to show for my efforts. I'm very casual about most things in life and am not easily flustered, but getting older is probably the one thing that I've struggled with. I guess we all have our little secret dreads, and that's mine. Cheers for now :D

Neil, you've done a fabulous series! For me it would be impossible to do a 'smiling' SP (without looking like the village idiot!) Its difficult enough when posing for someone else. The best smiling pics are candids. All the best! :)
