Image details
Description: I have very few decent photos of myself, I guess mainly because I'm the guy that's usually behind the camera, rarely the one in front of it, so I've decided to do a series of self portraits. Rest assured this is not an exercise in vanity, but rather a way to practice various photographic styles and editing techniques, and what better way than to practice on mug-shots of myself. Besides, the end result may just be some respectable pics.
I'm rather proud of this portrait, and it's my birthday present to myself for my 50th birthday. The past few years have been very difficult in one way or another, but I've weathered those storms and am still alive and kicking and smiling! Not that it's all been bad because it hasn't, not by a long shot. The dramas, although sizable, have been clearly defined and dealt with accordingly. There have been good times mostly and some really awesome ones as well, so in the long run everything balances out nicely. Who am I to complain?
This portrait is symbolic of the darkness we all experience, but also the light which shows the way forward, and I like to think I can move forward with quiet confidence, hopefully having gained some wisdom from past experiences. I must say I feel quite optimistic that having reached this milestone I'm well prepared for the next phase of my life. Ready... set... go!!! :D
Photo taken with Canon IXUS 80 IS and edited with Lightzone. SIMPLICITY is my niche! Image captured July 2012 in Brisbane QLD Australia.

The Leo pride sticks together, Rosy. So many of my mates have birthdays Jul/Aug, it gets rather expensive this time of year :D

Thanks very much, Jethro. This was a good salvage of a pretty ordinary photo. Portraiture is so bloody difficult at times. I've still so much to learn, but there's plenty of time :D
