Compelling result Michael. Hard to tear myself away from this.

Thanks rodeorose! This one was an attempt at redoing the Two of Pentacles for my Tarot Cards, but when I put two coins on the eyes, I looked like I was wearing weird sunglasses, so I scrapped it.

Posted by rodeorose on June 27, 2012

I noticed that in your description, and thought it might have looked a little steampunk;)

Posted by michaelbilotta on June 27, 2012

oooh I love steampunk! Just discovered it recently! By the way, amazing work - love the Lion In Winter- but what medium??

Posted by rodeorose on June 27, 2012

Oh, I laughed reading your profile yesterday.."I think I am maybe a frustrated wanna-be painter! "...I'm definitely a frustrated painter, with no doubt about that.... i use Nikon's...some big lenses... and PSE and a few plugins... I will credit layers if I use them from elsewhere... my base shots are all original. I really like your work with models, but I just get candids of the people around me... :)

Posted by michaelbilotta on June 27, 2012

So your work with animals - those are all real photographs of animals?? WHERE did you shoot a closeup of a lion?? Pretty cool! Models are damned expensive! But it is such a pain shooting self-portraits, I couldn't do it without them!

Posted by rodeorose on June 27, 2012

I love your work with models, and really wish to encourage you to keep going because you manage to bring out some great results with impressive emotional depth and of course exceptional aesthetic beauty. The Animals in my collection are generally from zoo's, with the exception of the birds, and they are mostly from our neighbourhood here.

Posted by rodeorose on June 27, 2012

The Lions can be great subjects to pursue, and I have had some lucky shoots during periods when they were being mated... but otherwise, they can also be quite sedate when on hormone suppression... that it breaks my heart for the broader issues in it all.

Posted by michaelbilotta on June 27, 2012

you do a great job at making a fully realized portrait of the animals. I really love the owl, and the lion, and your treatment of them really pops! I am still hunting for my next model, and to round out my portfolio, I am looking for a younger male, but EVERY ONE OF THE ONES I LOOK AT ARE COVERED IN TATTOOS!!! ARRRGH! Why would you do that if you want to be a model? Seriously! That means the model with the ill-conceived iconography all over them are dictating artistic direction. Not on my watch! LOL Sorry - pet peeve of mine, only when it comes to models. Not opposed to ink otherwise!

Posted by rodeorose on June 27, 2012

Neither am I... my stepdaughter is intent on becoming a tattoo-artist! But I have to tell you, after your little vent about the ink yesterday, I tried to convince my husband( who hates ink!! of course) ...into trying out a little nude modelling for me to practice on......his first response is always no! ... but , we have ways......lol...though this is a long shot, I admit;)

Posted by michaelbilotta on June 27, 2012

HAHA! Oh just tap into that male ego! Deep down, we are ALL exhibitionists! My first nude shots for practice were all me, though not sure I have the cojones to post em LOL Still, a few drinks and ya never know! Just stoke his ego a little, and promise him you'll liquify-extend his manhood into epic proportions!

This one draws me in...the whole concept. and I love that the lips are still slightly open.

Posted by michaelbilotta on June 27, 2012

thanks rdangel! I like this one too, which is weird because I am not usually a fan when I am in the shot :)

Excellent execution and description Michael! And, as Frederique has noted, disturbing!

Well done and disturbing.

Thank you! Enjoyed your experimental photography gallery. Would like to peer you to keep track.

Posted by frederiqueroy70 on June 24, 2012

Thanks! Not everyone seems to "get" experimental photography, so i appreciate your comment and your visit immensely. Have you visited my group "Painterlyphotography"?? http://groups.bluecanvas.com/Painterlyphotography

Posted by michaelbilotta on June 24, 2012

Very welcome. I try to be supportive of those who do the same for me, as well as those that focus in areas such as this, which, as you say, not everyone "gets." I get really bored of photography when it's just landscapes and simple portraiture.
