Description: Below is a poem written by my partner
The Long Way Home by Andrew S
To the owl they did turn in their time of need
Their story they told and their tongues ran free
His help they sought to find their way home
Because they were lost in the forest all alone
For a walk they had been their tiredness to shake
The long way home they decided to take
As the darkness set in they had turned the wrong way
Now it seemed to them in the forest they’d stay
For hours they had walked by light of the lamps
Their clothes from the dew had become cold and damp
It was then that they found him this wizened old owl
And as if they knew him they deferred with a bow
William his name and a lord in his own right
This distinguished old bird held court here at night
These strangers he’d help and give them a guide
A friend to lead them and be by their side
So open and honest to each other they’d been
His senses were sharp to a lie they were keen
A false word spoken would have ruined all
But the truth of their dealings had enabled the call
The word was sent they’d soon be gone
Of their new friend they’d always be fond
This regal old owl had marked them that day
A part of them now in the forest would stay
