Description: Tower Bridge, London, UK captured at night to enhance its mystical charms and appeal.
Taking a total of 8 years to build in the late 19th century and at the time was the largest and most sophisticated bascule bridge ever completed. The design incorporated 2 high level walkways so that the public could still cross the bridge when the road level was opened but these were closed in 1910 due to lack of use and these were re-opened in 1982 as part of the Tower Bridge Exhibition.
Originally painted in a chocolate brown colour, the bridge was repainted in it's now iconic colours of red, white and blue to celebrate the Queens Jubilee in 1977.
Nice shot Alice, I love this bridge, but not the night I shot it and my Card corrupted losing dunno how many shots, and hours of work :-( I must go shoot it again Love 'N' Laughter Kriss X X
Kriss, nooooooooo, that's my worst nightmare, I would have been devasted. Thanks for your comment and star. For me, this is one of the most iconic and beautiful bridges in the world, I never tire of looking at it.
