Excellent visual expression of it. And I am glad to hear he is such a smart little guy. The smart ones always come out on top. Hugs for you both!

Nice - good he's shared it with you, too - I was "new kid" at many different schools growing up, and saw a bit of this too, really destructive environment stuff - kids can be pretty awful sometimes - strength to Nate!

Posted by sayala on April 19, 2012

It affects children in different ways...I didn't really care about being different in school but he is very emotional and takes it to heart. But he is slowly becoming powerful!

Posted by turcotte on April 19, 2012

Well, there's being different... and then there's being attacked... ! Good for him - learning to deal with these people will help him for the rest of his life.

Sandra it is brilliant work- thanks for adding to BLUE! We have just been focussing on this issue lately in the group, inspired by Shari's work - you may like to look at her gallery and website http://www.bluecanvas.com/aimsumo2012... There is so much that can be done for Nate and other kids like him. I am sure even this painting means so much to him already, and hopefully he feels less alone in it all.( Amazing work by Brooke too.)

Posted by sayala on March 26, 2012

Thank you so much...I absolutely love Shari's work!!!! And this piece did do a lot for him. He was so proud of it. When I shot this I just asked him to do what he felt he would if he were hiding from something unseen that was upsetting him and did just that. I've seen a change in him since we created this :)

This is very powerful. I wonder what your son thought of it... Bullying is such a terrible problem, and I often wonder what we can do to help stop this. I can so relate to your son, as I'm sure many of us can. The image you were inspired by is also quite something...This image is almost the opposite... hands meaning harm rather than support... yet the two are opposite sides of the same coin...

Posted by sayala on March 14, 2012

When I showed it to him...I could see the quiver of his lip and the wetness in his eyes. Then he looked up at me and said, "well mom...I think you got it." :-D He was very happy with it. The juxtaposition in both photos is somewhat alarming.

Posted by frederiqueroy70 on March 14, 2012

That's so touching. I'm sure it makes all the difference to him, knowing that you understand.

Posted by aashton on March 26, 2012

Wonderful support!! Powerful image, very special for the support you have with your son.
