What was your process on this one? I love the layers.

I started with some acrylic paint, tissue paper, stamps, and some oddly textured fabric I found somewhere and layered up the background. The girl is from a 1957 Ladies Home Journal. She was actually a Sear's ad asking the reader to buy her daughter's first bra at Sears. She just looked so resigned to me. I put her on with matte medium - you can see how the ink rubbed off while I was putting her down. I think that is because the magazine is so old and printing processes were different then. I then went back over her with inks and acrylic washes in some areas: a little on her face and her chemise. Then I painted her wings, added the flowers which were cut from newer magazines, went back in with my micron pens to add some outline details and the words on her wings, added a little gold leaf, and varnished her with two coats of gloss and two coats of satin. That ad hung in my studio for weeks. I knew I had to help her say something but I didn't know what for the longest time. Then Lego came out with it's new line of toys marketed specifically to little girls, and I started thinking about the boxes we put our children into with gender roles. I decided that she was a little unhappy with her box. That was probably more info than you were asking for. Sorry. Thank you, though, for taking the time to ask.
