Description: Acrilic on canvas.
D. Leonor Telles (Portugal 1350 - 1386), Queen of Portugal. She was the wife of Fernando I, the Fair.
She was an enigmatic character, like many other women who ruled in the shade of the past and the gigantic stature of their husbands. Demonized by the Portuguese and silenced by the Spanish, there is very little truthful documentation on her left in the archives. Leonor Telles was intriguing and ambitious and her memory deserves more justice in history.
Leonor Tellez was a strong, strong woman; and was determined enough that she attempted to take control of her life. She refused to accept the fate which society had imposed on women of this era and she wanted to decide for herself how or where she wanted to go.
