Jeff! Great to see you- thanks so much for your visit- ok...allow me to clarify- when you see an Orangutan with BIG cheek pads like this... you are definitely looking at a dominant male! The pads develop in puberty, which is around 12 years of age... well, whaddaya know... a little like us .. there are in fact vastly more similarities genetically than differences...:))

So do you think we came from them? Or is it just a design that is so close to ours by design only?
Posted by rodeorose on December 29, 2011
Alli to be honest, i don't see us collectively as any great improvement... I don;t know what else I would say. I think we kinda dropped the baton in the exchange...

How interesting, so you believe there is a progression or evolution from them to us, in some form or fashion? I believe we are higher than the animals but then again some of us act worst than the animals when given over to bad things. But, always there is something different, a gift in man, choice morally.

...not what I said Alli... but tnx xxx

I have a great Orangutan story. My daughter and I were visiting the Honolulu zoo a couple years ago and stopped to watch an Orangutan - not certain whether it was Rusty or Violet :-) Anyway, there was a large piece of plexiglass at this particular part of the habitat and while we watched the Orangutan grabbed a stick and slid it under the barrier to grab a napkin that was lying on the ground. He then proceeded to unfold and refold the napkin - pretty amazing to watch those huge fingers perform such a delicate task without tearing the paper. After he had refolded it to his liking he proceeded to spend a fair amount of time "cleaning" the plexiglass with the napkin so he could get a better look at us. I was mainly entranced by such a huge animal performing such a precise task. (Didn't notice the cheek pads, but I definitely will next time!)
