Description: watercolor on paper.
Trying to get a handle on my new tube of "genuine lapis" watercolor from Daniel Smith. It's the blue I used on her headress. There is a lot of gum arabic in it. I squeezed out the whole tube into a vile to see if it would even out, and it looked like it did, but it didn't. Maybe that much medium is needed to suspend such a heavy pigment, but my manganese blue isn't like that (that's the color of her garment) and it's probably about the same weight. I emailed Daniel Smith but never got a relply. anyway, I plan on doing a larger, more detailed Madonna, I think along the lines of an "Imaculate Conception" or Madonna Enthroned"; something where I can try to give her an ornate costume. (her earthly outfits are always humble)
This particular pose had a sufi girl for reference. I thought it could be a nice way to show similarities in the cultures, plus they still dress that way!
