Stone History (for Lolz & the curious): Most Opals are more than 60 million years old (yay for dinosaurs). The most striking quality of all Opals is the ability to refract and reflect specific wavelengths of light; despite Opal being fundamentally colorless (which is rare), they are most usually found containing colors of other stones (the colors Duke--THE COLORS; Skittles, lol; rainbows FTW). There are two categories of Opals -- common and precious. The precious members are White, Black, and Fire Opals; the Opal family also include Pink, Blue and Yellow Opals (another rival of the bigger gemstone families). There have been a great many different uses, symbolisms, beliefs and traditions surrounding this family over the ages. In ancient times, Opal was a symbol of faithfulness and confidence, used to increase mental capacities, creativity, and worn for protection from the evil eye (of Sauron; lol) and on journeys to far away lands (like Mordor). It's been said to be the most powerful of healing stones, the stone of hope, the stone of great achievement, the stone of love (only for the faithful; it would bring misfortune upon the unfaithful) and even the "stone of the Gods ('tis that Epic)." The Opal was included among Roman noble gems, and was second only to emerald. They have long been regarded as a stone strongly associated with the emotions, spontaneity, and an aid in visualization, imagination, dreams, and healing.
FO Opal is a part of a series called Birthstone Bishonen; AKA: 誕生石(たんじょうせき)の美少年(びしょうねん), or Tanjouseki no Bishonen. Essentially, each character is a personification of one of 35 (yes, *35*) of the most popular Birthstones. =ow~= <3

Credits: The majority of the free-use Photoshop brushes and patterns I highlighted throughout the seires are from the interwebs (yay Google!). There are a few that are from deviantART, but I've so many from so many different sources that I don't know who they came from. SORRY!!1 =>_<'''=
But! I did use A LOT of Gimei's { http://gimei.deviantart.com/ } resources. It's kind of obvious once you see 'em. Also take a gander at the rest of their gallery; it's amazing. =>w<= <3
