Description: one of my recent pencil drawings of vintage years series,Limpsfield,Surrey,1924.The 1920s and '30s were the last boom years for the village shop. The growth in car ownership after the Second World War enabled many people to travel to local towns to buy goods.
Gosh this is wonderful. It really takes me back to my childhood in Stepney East London. The cobbled streets were our playgrounds. Popular games were 'flicker' (flicking little cards from boxes of tea into the air, for reasons I can't remember!) and marbles ;-)) ahhhhhh . The only traffic; the rent and insurance men on bicycles, the rag and bone man with his horse and cart and the milk man on his milk float. ;-)
