thanks! I'm working on an even larger painting of her now (5' x 5'). She's actually an incredible singer.

each time the I walk in to your gallery (I won't tell how many, but very often) I stay longer and I must confess,is a Nirvana,is a honor,I enjoy so much, calm, serene, alone and I need to tell you that your art,is one of the few pleasures the I have this days, since I'm in the last yard of my life, and for that,I thank you much.-Adolfo.

Really interesting - I feel like your color is moving in a more fauvist direction, with those saturated magentas in the cheeks and all the touches of green and blue and orange. Is this something emerging from the blue piece? I am starting to find that when I'm about to make some technical jump, my first expression of it will come spontaneously in a piece with highly stylized color, and I get the feeling from the blue piece and this that you may be going through a similar transformation. Anyhow, it's lovely work - thank you for sharing.

Posted by williamrose on July 31, 2010

Thanks David! Yah I don't know if I'm really moving in any direction - since I'm relatively new to painting, I think I'm still playing with possibilities. That said, I'm a huge fan of Matisse and certainly would like to think I'm sliding into fauvist-like work. The piece I'm working on now is a lot of black and gray and white with strong abstract elements of gold, yellow and a little orange - hoping it comes together like I see it in my head :)

Neat - I can't wait to see the next one! And I'm a big Matisse fan too - can't wait to see the current show at MoMA... and, uh, I'm a Daniel.

Posted by williamrose on August 01, 2010

haha - yah sorry, I realized that shortly after I wrote this :). I have a good friend who's name is david madeline - my brain slipped a beat. Wish I could see the MoMA show.

100% stunning. I love the blue in the face. Did you do a blue underpainting and just let it show through? You are crazy fantastico!

Posted by williamrose on July 31, 2010

thanks again! actually the blue/green was layered on top - the underpainting was the earthtoned color around the lower part of the painting.
