The line work in this is beautiful!! I see a curious creature trying to reach for the water (to represent the subconsciousness) but cannot because he is forced by the flower like flames on the ground to climb the tree (religion). Just typing out my thoughts!
Excellent interpretation as religion one of the many things that keep us from truth while simultaneously overwhelmes us with a constant demand to define the truth.
i'm reminded of the saying "a fish trying to climb a tree will be made to feel stupid its entire life"

Sorry for such a monumentaly tardy response, for some reason I never saw your comment! Thanks for the astute observation, it is in fact based off a very profound and powerful dream I had. That is what essentialy launch the entire "Disaster" series which spun off the "Four" series. So this image that formed in my mind is what has steered my artistic course for the past 2 years.
